I am happy to announce that I have transitioned from my role as FOH Engineer for The Marvelous Wonderettes, and into my new position as Technical Director/Master Electrician of the same show. It is quite a challenge to take responsibility for a show that I did not install myself, but I am enjoying the challenge! You can still find us at the Westside theater for our open-ended run.
So much to tell... To make a long story short, I've moved across the country from California to New York. My current project is FOH Audio engineer for the Off-Broadway production of The Marvelous Wonderettes. When I am not doing that, I am a Lighting Technician at See Factor Industry in L.I.C. New York.
In any case, I am definitely still in the game, and going strong... Now that I am settled in to New York life a bit, I will keep this more regularly updated with current projects and news, so stay tuned!
Ok, so today I ran across this campaign to help Mozilla set the World Record for most downloads in a 24 hour period. In case you haven't heard, Firefox 3 is going to be released soon. I have been a big Firefox supporter for a long time now. I know that many of you are big Safari supporters and whatnot, but I love me some Firefox, and I've had a great time playing with the latest Beta versions of Firefox 3. If you want to help out, all you need to do is sign up to be notified of the release date, then on the date, just download Firefox. That's it.
Well, it's been a few days now. New York was amazing, and I had a great time at the Broadway Lighting Master Classes. I especially enjoyed lectures by Beverly Emmons and Clifton Taylor on color, and Christopher Akerlind, who gave a wonderful talk about a very unconventional approach to the design process, and how to integrate a different kind of thinking about lighting into a production.
I am also excited to have seen the new Chamsys MagicQ console, and I think that MagicQ is doing some fascinating things with their new desks. I encourage all of you to check it out, as I think it's truly one of the most innovative, and exciting new products available to us today.
Since summer is coming up, I hope that I will get a chance to work with some old friends once again, and to make some new ones as well. Here's to a wonderful summer!
So, after much work, and anticipation, it's finally up. The new and improved scottshiba.com. I'd like to thank Jon Neal for all of his help, and coding genius with the site. If it weren't for Jon, the site would either be some Joomla incarnation like the last one, or even worse, some cooky html that I would have come up with. Thanks to Jon, we are w3c compliant, and ready to rock.
Tonight is May 14th, which means I will be leaving for a one week stay in New York in just a few short days! I arrive on May 19th, and will be at the Broadway Master Classes from May 20th-22nd. Apart from that, I don't have a lot of other solid plans, so give me a call!
